ISLAMABAD – Delegates, who arrived in Islamabad to participate in the International Conference of News Agencies Saturday, appreciated the initiative of Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) to gather media persons from various countries to discuss current challenges facing the news dissemination organizations.
As many as 19 delegates from 15 countries landed in the federal capital by the time to participate in the conference being held under the theme “Pakistan’s Media, Opportunities and Challenges” with special focus on “News Agencies Emerging Professional Challenges”. The delegates also visited APP Headquarters in the evening and had a brief interactive session with Managing Director Masood Malik.
The APP Managing Director briefed the delegates about the aims and objectives of the conference. Masood Malik told the delegates that the conference would provide an opportunity to journalists for a direct and hassle-free linkage to cope with emerging competitive environment for news agencies in the world.
He said the APP had taken the initiative “to cope with the situation and emerging competitive environment for news agencies in the world.” He was confident that the deliberations of the conference would lead to a meaningful cooperation among the news agencies.
During their visit to APP Headquarters, the delegates thanked the APP Managing Director for providing them an opportunity to exchange views on important issues being faced by the news agencies in digital era.
Recognizing “connectivity” as a hallmark of the current era, the delegates observed that the conference would help identify the technical and professional hurdles in the way of smooth collaboration and exchange of news.
They also expressed readiness to expand and streamline exchange of news with APP. Later they visited different sections of the organization and took keen interest in its functioning. International delegations of News Agencies also signed various MoUs with APP, in order to enhance mutual cooperation.
